Arsenic Removal Using Coupled Electrolysis-Reverse Osmosis Treatment

Reverse osmosis provides state-of-the art filtration of water as it is capable of rejecting virtually all contaminants to produce high quality water. It is employed at various levels, ranging from point of use devices to large desalination facilities around the world.

However, arsenic removals are often low in reverse osmosis systems. Approaches that shift the distribution of arsenic species in water may be of interest as reverse osmosis pretreatments.

In this project, electrolysis coupled with reverse osmosis is being evaluated for its potential to remove arsenic from drinking water.

This work is being performed by Jonathan Hou from A.O. Smith Corporation.
